The Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences is one of five faculties within the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences. It was founded in 1977 and although it is the youngest of the faculties, it develops quite dynamically. The greatest achievements of the Faculty include obtaining the status of the National Leading Scientific Centre in 2014 – together with the other units forming the consortium of the Wrocław Centre for Biotechnology; and in 2017, becoming one of the few educational units in Poland to achieve the highest A+ category in the parametric evaluation for the years 2013-2016.
Scientific research carried out at the Faculty falls mainly within the scope of the scientific discipline of food and nutrition technology – in the specialties of food technology and human nutrition, and in the scientific disciplines of biotechnology as well as chemistry – in the specialties of bioorganic chemistry and organic synthesis.
The Faculty publishes two scientific journals: the English-language Internet journal entitled Electronic Journal of Polish Agricultural Universities – Biotechnology, and the nationwide journal: Acta Scientiarum Polonorum-Biotechnologia.
The mission of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences is to ensure high-level education of graduates for future staff of the bio-economy and food economy sectors, and to develop research in the field of food technology, food quality management, human nutrition and biotechnology aimed at improving the quality of social well-being.
